Fire District Tax
A fire district tax is a separate property tax that some independent fire districts in Rhode Island levy on top of the regular town or city tax, funding local fire and sometimes water service. It appears as its own bill and can add meaningfully to the annual cost of owning a home, which surprises many out-of-state buyers. Because districts and their rates vary address by address even within one town, you should always confirm which district a specific property is in before making an offer.
